Our brief for this project was clear: Give me enough power to run my house and outbuildings on the farm and I don’t want to think about what I am using or not using too much. Make it work and make it work well. OK, understood. After looking at cost considerations and weighing up options we decided on a three phase system with 10kW per phase, 30kW of solar panels and 90kWh of Lithium batteries. We left room in the design for a further 50% expansion of the system should our client be happy with the performance of the “phase 1” system.
Although the inverters are relatively simple Voltronic inverters, the combination of intelligent batteries and even more intelligent monitoring system gives us unprecedented control over the system. The control features in this setup will be hard to be beat by inverter systems with four times the price tag (of the inverter / charger hardware).
Update: The photos shows the project in it’s 80% completed stage (of phase 1). Our client has asked for a further upgrade and addition of an automatically controlled generator set in order to totally disconnect the grid power from the farm. The upgrade will be completed shortly.
